What exactly has happened to movie-land? Why are we less drawn to the big screen, and/or any other way you choose to access movies?
What do you look for in a movie? Great reviews, excitement, intense drama, fabulous acting, something uplifting or heartwarming? Maybe you prefer movies from the days of old, or just watching your favorites time and time again (that’s not all bad, I might add). I don’t know about you, but we rarely watch movies anymore. So many seem like the same old story … one you’ve heard in other forms a million times before. But that’s true of anything in life … isn’t it?
I will admit that during the winter months we are more likely to actually go to a movie theater to see a movie. But that’s because there is nothing else to do, right? Or, perhaps, because the new releases offer something special. But on a routine day during a routine week, we simply don’t even think about movies. Has life gotten so complicated that movies seem irrelevant to a point? Hopefully not.
There are an abundance of wonderful actors and actresses out there. Screenwriters, producers, and such. Their talent is considerable. And assuredly worthwhile. So maybe the tide will turn. Maybe when 2020 rolls around, we’ll decide to go see a movie again. After all, Tom Hanks has a point. What are your thoughts on movies? What keeps you going back, or renting one?
Everybody has something that chews them up and, for me, that thing was always loneliness. The cinema has the power to make you not feel lonely, even when you are. — Tom Hanks
