Will you love me in December as you do in May?” ― Jack Kerouac
We all grow up with different experiences linked to the final month of the year. Many are memorable; many turn into a morass of mixed feelings that we never quite sort through. Yet assumptions are made. We expect to feel or act a “certain way,” right? And when we don’t, or when others seem out of touch with cultural expectations, maybe we wonder why. Or perhaps we’ve evolved enough to simply live and let live. Seems like that’s not a bad idea. After all, we are all works-in-progress finding our way alone and in the dark on an isolated planet seemingly far far away from other life forms that may or may not exist. Maybe that’s something to think about in December, as we acknowledge the inexplicable, yet, poignant, journey we’re on–one we can’t begin to fully grasp. Empathy, compassion, and understanding just might be the best gifts of the season! Happy Holidays! And warm wishes for 2025. The future beckons …
